What The Papers Say
Helping Cockermouth flood victims to find jobs
The only istop kiosk in Cockermouth in the Lake District was washed away in November when Mills newsagents was flooded by the River Derwent. This was saving residents without internet access from the trouble of a 16 mile round trip to the nearest Jobcentre Plus in Workington to check what work is available.
Rather than wait for the shop to be rebuilt, istop provided a mobile facility on the Allerdale Borough Council’s Fairfield car park on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 January. The mobile facility will visit regularly until the shop reopens.
The first visit by the mobile istop kiosk attracted extensive media attention. istop’s Alf Henderson was filmed by an ITV cameraman /reporter before also being interviewed by CFM, the local radio station. Jonathan Savitt spoke live for 7 minutes about istop after the 6pm news on BBC Radio Cumbria while the Mayor of Cockermouth was photographed when he visited the mobile kiosk and thanked istop for its support for the town.
Several local news publications reported the story both in their papers and on their websites. Here is how the daily News & Star in Carlisle and Cumbria reported the event.
